What are planned service changes and why are they needed?
Planned service changes take trains off their normal service route so that work can be performed in the subway. These changes are needed so that construction projects, signal upgrades, track replacement and other MTA Capital Plan work can get done so that New York's subway system remains reliable and safe.

Why should I sign up for e-mail notifications?
When you sign up, you get advance notification of planned service changes. We want to keep you informed and prepared before your trip.

What information will I receive?
It's up to you. You select the subway line (or lines) you want to know about and the days you want to know about:

  • weekdays: Monday through Friday, midday and late night

  • weekends: late Friday evening through early Monday morning

  • both weekdays and weekends

The following example shows the content of an e-mail sent to a subscriber who signed up for weekend service information for the C line image line:

C
No C trains running
1. Manhattan-bound A trains run local from Euclid Av to 168 St
2. Brooklyn-bound A trains run local but will skip 50, 23, and Spring Sts in Manhattan

Oct 6 - 8, 12:01 AM Sat to 5 AM Mon

When can I expect an e-mail and what information will be sent?
When you sign up, you will select the subway line or lines that you wish to receive information about, and whether you want information about them for weekdays, weekends or both. Then each week you will receive an e-mail for scheduled service diversions for your lines.

If you sign-up to receive information about 'weekend' service changes, you will receive an e-mail every Thursday afternoon that contains information for the upcoming weekend.

If you sign up to receive information about 'weekday' service changes, you will receive an e-mail every Friday afternoon that contains information for the following week.

The e-mail address from us for weekend and weekday information is the same: Advisory@mtanyct.info
And, beside the difference in the day of the week that we e-mail you, we also reference 'weekend advisories' and/or 'weekday advisories' in the subject line.

Special note to our original weekend service change subscribers: our sending information to you for the upcoming weekend on Thursday represents changes to the original program based on the feedback you provided. We hope these changes meet with your approval.

How do I choose the lines/days I want?
Ask yourself: what subway lines do I ride and when? Then check the box next to those lines to mark your selections! Click the "submit" button at the bottom of the page, and you're done. That's it.

Is there a limit to the number of lines I can sign-up to receive information about?
There is no limit to the number of lines you can select, and no matter how many lines you select, you will receive one e-mail that lists service changes pertaining to all of them.

I signed up, but have not received an e-mail yet. What should I do?
If you received an acknowledgement that you successfully subscribed to this program, but have not received an e-mail notification as scheduled, please check your spam folder to ensure that our e-mails to you are not being blocked. The e-mail address from us for weekend and weekday information is the same: Advisory@mtanyct.info
In addition, please note that beside the fact that weekend and weekday e-mails are sent on different days of the week - Thursday and Friday, respectively - the subject line for each will reference 'weekend advisories' or 'weekday advisories.'

We are working on an ALERT feature that will provide you with an e-mail when an unplanned service disruption occurs. We want the ALERT to inform you of the disruption, and provide alternate travel information and updates until normal service is restored. While this feature of the subscrption program is in development, please know that we actively post ALERTs on the homepage of this website. The notifications appear at the top of the page as a flashing triangle. Until the ALERT subscription service is online, please keep us bookmarked so you can check for ALERTS before you start your trip.
